Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” released in North America on June 14, 2024, surpassed $1.667 billion in global box office revenue by its 12th week, claiming the title of highest-grossing animated film of all time. Reference: boxofficemojo.com
According to Wikipedia, the previous record-holder was the 2019 release “The Lion King,” which was considered almost live-action. Therefore, “Inside Out 2” was already effectively number one, but now it has officially surpassed “The Lion King’s” record to become the highest-grossing animated film in history.
The $1.667 billion figure ranks as the 9th highest of all time, even when including live-action films, following the first “Jurassic World.” (Wikipedia source)
As of the article’s publication, “Despicable Me: Minions Transform,” another family film released in the summer of 2024, grossed $915 million, while the R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine,” hailed as Marvel’s savior, grossed $1.26 billion. Both are record-breaking hits, but “Inside Out 2” has surpassed them.
Pixar is set to release its first TV series, “Win or Lose,” in December 2024, and has also announced a spin-off of the “Inside Out” series called “Dream Production” for 2025.
Pixar’s momentum in the film industry shows no signs of slowing down. Highly anticipated sequels to blockbuster franchises such as “Toy Story 5” and “The Incredibles 3” have been confirmed, further fueling fan excitement.
