German LEGO(R) fan site Promobricks has revealed the full details of the highly exclusive LEGO(R) Inside Tour 20th Anniversary Set, numbered 4000046. This special set, available only to selected participants of the LEGO(R) Inside Tour in Billund, Denmark, contains 1,912 pieces and features miniature recreations of six iconic models from past Inside Tour exclusives over the last 20 years.
20 Years Born from a 3-Minute Airport Pitch
The LEGO(R) Inside Tour began in 2004, thanks to a bold idea from then LEGO(R) Idea House manager Jette Orduna. While waiting at an airport gate, she pitched the concept to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the owner of the LEGO(R) Group. In just a few minutes, she received the green light, leading to the creation of one of the brand’s most exclusive fan experiences.
Each year, a limited number of fans are selected by lottery to participate in the tour. After paying the participation fee, attendees are granted behind-the-scenes access and receive a unique LEGO(R) set made exclusively for the event.
Iconic Sets Brought Together
The 4000046 commemorative set includes micro-scale builds of six past Inside Tour sets: the LECA Automobile (2005?2006), Ole Kirk’s House (2009), the Injection Molding Machine (2011), the LEGOLAND(R) Train (2014), H.C. Andersen’s “Clumsy Hans” (2015), and the Fire Truck (2023).
These mini models faithfully replicate the functionality of their original, larger counterparts. The concept was led by LEGO(R) House Master Builder Stewart Harris, with Senior Designer Marcus Rollbühler and Designer Maria Jendriszek collaborating to bring the set to life.
During development, only a select group of employees were involved, and the details were kept secret from other in-house designers. The packaging features special 20th-anniversary printing, and some exclusive parts are included.
For participants, this commemorative set holds special significance as a collector’s item celebrating the past 20 years of the LEGO(R) Inside Tour.
