Currently, pre-orders for LEGO(R) ONE PIECE are being accepted at the official LEGO(R) Shop store. What’s particularly noteworthy is how the protagonist Luffy’s “Gum-Gum” abilities and Zoro’s “Santoryu” are expressed through LEGO(R) bricks.
Luffy’s Gum-Gum
Luffy’s minifigure is included in all sets except for the LEGO(R) BrickHeadz. Notably, in “The Fight at Arlong Park (75638),” Luffy’s minifigure is distinctively portrayed in a Gum-Gum state with extended arms. The stretched arm parts used appear to be existing arm parts that have been adopted in previous LEGO(R) sets.
The “Fight at Arlong Park” set also features a gimmick that recreates the impressive tower collapse from the anime and live-action drama. However, while the decisive factor for the collapse in both the original manga and drama was a leg technique, Luffy’s legs are not extended in this set.
In the recently released LEGO(R) Marvel “Fantastic Four vs. Galactus (76316),” the leg extension of Mr. Fantastic (Reed), a character who similarly stretches his limbs, was expressed through brick connections. However, this method gives a more rigid impression, like riding on stilts, rather than the flexible “rubber” impression.
Gum-Gum Balloon too?
If LEGO(R) ONE PIECE continues to expand with new products in the future, it’s highly likely that Luffy’s other Gum-Gum techniques will also be adopted.
In the recently released LEGO(R) Harry Potter “Privet Drive: Aunt Marge’s Visit 76451,” Aunt Marge’s magical inflation and floating like a balloon is recreated. A follower commented that Luffy’s Gum-Gum Balloon might be expressed using the same technique.
It may only be a matter of time before Luffy in his “Gum-Gum Balloon” state appears in future LEGO(R) ONE PIECE sets.

When you open the dollhouse with sunroom, you’ll find a living room, dining room, and kitchen. The dining room table is removable, and there are individual rooms for Harry and Dudley on the second floor
Zoro’s Santoryu
Another noteworthy feature, Zoro’s Santoryu, is expressed through a specialized part that fits around the neck. From the photos, while it is a neck-fitting part, it appears to use a newly molded thin part that differs from conventional scarf or beard parts. The sword held in the mouth is made with white parts to recreate the white appearance of “Wado Ichimonji.”
Here it is attached to the minifigure. This can be said to be a very well-thought-out design with high reproduction quality. Note that Mihawk’s beloved sword “Yoru” and Zoro’s bandana are also newly designed parts.
LEGO(R) ONE PIECE is a product that magnificently brings the attractive characters and famous scenes from the original work to three-dimensional life through the LEGO(R) Group’s technical prowess. The skillful expression of Luffy’s rubber human characteristics and Zoro’s swordsman qualities within the constraints of limited part sizes can be said to be the crystallization of LEGO(R) designers’ creative ingenuity.
This is a must-see masterpiece for both ONE PIECE fans and LEGO(R) bricks enthusiasts. Expectations are high for new parts and gimmicks that will appear in the future.
