LEGO(R) Braille Bricks Announced
The LEGO(R) Group announced the general release of the LEGO(R) Braille Bricks ‘Play with Braille’ in English and French versions on September 1, 2023, as stated in their Newsroom.
The LEGO(R) Braille Bricks are now available for pre-order starting from August 24th on the official online stores of LEGO(R) Shops in the 11 countries where they are being offered.
The initial release includes versions in English and French only, but in 2024, products in German, Italian, and Spanish are also planned to be launched.
The term ‘Braille,’ meaning tactile writing system, is derived from the name of Louis Braille, the French inventor of the six-dot Braille system.
First General Release
The LEGO(R) Group first developed the LEGO(R) Braille Bricks in 2020 and has been providing them for free to specific organizations and groups focused on the education and support of visually impaired individuals. However, they had not been available for sale to the general public.
Play with Braille
In addition to Braille characters, the LEGO(R) Braille Bricks feature printed text, allowing both visually impaired individuals and those without visual impairments to enjoy learning Braille together.
An engaging activity for improving Braille skills while playing with LEGO(R) Braille Bricks is provided on the English special page called ‘LEGO(R) Braille Activities‘.
