This time, we will review the LEGO (R) Speed Champions “Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) 76917” released in January 2023.
When I was a kid, our family car was a Skyline for a while, so it’s a bit nostalgic.
LEGO (R) Fast and Furious Vol.2
This car is the Skyline that Brian O’Connor rode in the fierce race at the beginning of the car action movie “Fast and Furious X2”.
This is the second time that the car that appeared in the Wild Speed series has been commercialized in LEGO (R) Speed Champions.

Brian’s Nissan Skyline
The model includes details inspired by the real-life version: iconic stripes on the side, a wing at the back, a grille on the front and engine components on the passenger seat
Bags and Boxes
The box contains two bags, a car plate, assembly instructions, and a sticker sheet.
It is said that some of the new sets released on January 1, 2023 have paper bags, but this set was a conventional plastic bag.
I will omit the detailed assembly process, but it is interesting how to assemble the part that protrudes slightly from the bottom of the tip.
Attach the gun parts vertically, point the bar holder at the handle, and combine with the vehicle body. It’s like docking in space.
Completed!
A cool Skyline with the same sense of speed that appeared in the movie is completed.
I saw the car body from the side. The blue line looks great. Almost all patterns are stickers. The range of patterns is wide, so there are a lot of stickers. The wheel of the tire is also the same as the movie.
The included minifigure is Brian
The minifigure comes with the main character, Brian O’Connor (played by Paul Walker).
The torso is a white T-shirt, just like in the film. There is a wrinkled print to bring out the texture. A character wearing a white T-shirt is rare among LEGO (R) minifigures. The only accessory is a wrench.
Round tail lights
Skyline is characterized by round tail lamps. The place where large and small lights are lined up diagonally looks like a real thing.
The Toyo Tires logo and Florida license plate are also good as they are in the works.
GTR letters on the front
Above the front grille is the letter GTR printed on the side of the plate. It’s dark and it’s hard to see the R, but there is a red letter R under the GT. The front grill is a sticker.
Reference: What does GT-R mean?
As far as I checked on the net, GT-R’s GT is Grand Touring (Italy Gran Turismo), and R is R of the racing car R380 developed by Prince Motors (merged with Nissan in 1966).
Grand Touring means a car that can comfortably travel long distances, and the R comes from the fact that it was equipped with an engine developed using the know-how of the R380 engine. Check it out yourself if you want to know more.
Inside the car
In this skyline, the driver’s seat is on the right side of the Japanese specification. In the passenger seat is a nitro tank familiar with Fast and Furious.
It’s a system that makes it possible to greatly speed up for a limited time, but when I checked it on the net, it seems that the contents are a substance called nitrous oxide (N2O).
Statham vs Brian
Actor Jason Statham, who is strongly recommended by Studs, also appears in Fast and Furious, but there are few driving scenes because he is not in the car team.
In this review, I would like to think about what would happen if Brian and Statham, who did not have a direct confrontation, had a car race showdown in the LEGO (R) Speed Champions skyline.
“A bet on a car? With that car?”
“Ready and”
“Go!”
Brian Wins!
I got your car.
Now, this is mine.
Adios!
Final Impression
LEGO (R) Speed Champions is more complicated to make than it looks, so it took quite a while to complete.
However, this set was quite fun to make because it is a set of the popular Skyline, a personal favorite movie Fast and Furious series.
It’s a popular set that has been in short supply since its release, but I want you to buy it and make it!
The last picture is Dom and Brian, the double protagonists of the Fast and Furious series, and Jason Statham, who also appeared in WySpi and was active in this review.
