The trial operation of “LEGO(R) Brick Take Back“, a project where you can exchange LEGO(R) bricks for LEGO(R) e-gift cards, has begun in the United States.
This is a pilot project aimed at ensuring unused LEGO(R) bricks are put to more play.
While the LEGO(R) Group has previously implemented programs like “LEGO(R) Replay” to collect unused LEGO(R) bricks, the “LEGO(R) Brick Take Back” project differs significantly in that rewards are paid in e-gift cards for the LEGO(R) bricks sent.
Only completely disassembled LEGO(R) bricks, minifigures, and baseplates are acceptable. LEGO(R) DUPLO(R) bricks, building toys from other companies, electric parts, and non-disassembled bricks are not accepted.
According to the special page, the basic reward in e-gift cards for sending LEGO(R) bricks is $6 per pound (about 454g), but the final amount is calculated after evaluation by a specialized team.
While the special page does not specify how the collected LEGO(R) bricks will be utilized, the “LEGO(R) Replay” program donated bricks to schools and charitable organizations for children in need of play. It’s likely that the “LEGO(R) Brick Take Back” project follows a similar concept.
As of the time of this article’s publication, the “LEGO(R) Brick Take Back” project is being implemented only in the United States and, presumably, Germany.
