The project “Motorized Howl’s Moving Castle” has been confirmed to advance to the review process of LEGO® Ideas, which is a project that turns creations from LEGO® block fans into products.
If it passes the review, it will be released as a new LEGO® Ideas set between 2025 and 2026.

“Howl’s Moving Castle” is a 2004 Studio Ghibli animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. This LEGO® brick creation recreates the moving castle from the movie, complete with motorized parts that allow it to walk.
The back of the castle is densely packed with distinctive steampunk-style equipment, faithfully reproducing the film’s iconic design.
The author’s YouTube video showcasing the walking motion has been released. It looks quite lifelike and impressive!
What are the chances of it becoming a product?
This is the second time the creator, ericlego321, has advanced to the review stage. The previous time was in the 1st round of 2023 with a similar design of a motorized Howl’s Moving Castle.
With its steampunk-inspired design and the impressive feat of recreating the walking motion, it would be wonderful to see this project become a product through LEGO® Ideas.
Are Studio Ghibli works difficult to pass?
Studio Ghibli-related works, such as “Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro,” have advanced to the LEGO® Ideas review stage multiple times, but none have been turned into products yet.
If produced, these sets would likely generate significant sales, at least in Japan. However, given that none have been approved so far, there might be some behind-the-scenes factors at play, which could make it difficult for this project to pass the review as well.
Moreover, for major properties like Studio Ghibli, if LEGO® Group decides to create products, they are more likely to develop them directly under other brands rather than through LEGO® Ideas.
