Five works to be featured in Series 8 of the “BrickLink Designer Program,” a crowdfunding project that officially commercializes creations by LEGO® block fans, have been announced. While all have distinctive compositions, there are already works attracting attention even before sales begin.

The featured works are as follows: Brick Railroad: Diesel-Electric-Locomotive (A-Unit), Coconut Cape, Dustmark Keep, University of Science, Hot Air Balloon.

In previous series, works with medieval or castle themes have been particularly popular. They have strong support among fans and it’s not uncommon for them to sell out instantly. In this lineup, “Dustmark Keep,” which continues this “royal road” tradition, stands out prominently. Furthermore, works that could be called “romance category” such as “Coconut Cape,” which shares a similar worldview, and “University of Science,” with its authentic architectural composition, are likely to strongly appeal to the main demographic.

“Dustmark Keep,” themed around a bounty hunter guild, evokes romance with its setting of a fortress built in the wasteland, combining visual impact, play value, and display appeal in a perfect trinity. There’s also attention on the possibility that Kraken faction and Griffin faction elements from the recent LEGO® Ideas “Capsule Machine” might be adopted for the included minifigures.

Next, “Coconut Cape” is also noteworthy. This is a fortress protecting the sea from pirates, positioned thematically at an intermediate point that could be taken as either medieval or pirate-themed, matching past popularity trends. Its strength lies in its ability to appeal to both “medieval fans” and “pirate fans.”

“Eldorado Fortress,” released in 2023, was a revival of the once-popular “Islanders” series and was extremely popular, with shortages continuing from the initial release.

Furthermore, this time, “University of Science” is included as a somewhat unusual composition compared to previous years. It’s likely to receive certain support due to its authentic architectural style and academic elements. However, due to its composition that tends to require many parts, it’s expected that the price range will be high. While it will have strong support from collectors, its penetration into the casual user segment will depend on pricing.

From the LEGO® Icons Modular Buildings series, the “Natural History Museum” has also been released as an educational building set. It’s a popular set featuring dinosaur fossils, space, and historical exhibits. With 4,014 pieces, it’s the highest piece count in the Modular Buildings series to date and would be enjoyable for parents and children to play with together.

Meanwhile, on social media, there’s also certain buzz around “Diesel-Electric-Locomotive A-Unit” and “Hot Air Balloon.” Train works have stable demand especially among railway fans, and the colorful hot air balloon is getting attention for its display-friendly nature.

Note that while the BrickLink Designer Program has previously had an order limit of 30,000 sets, this restriction has been effectively lifted in Series 5, which began on June 11. Series 8 is likely to have similar specifications, and cases of selling out within hours like in the past are expected to decrease. This time, it seems possible to take time to choose before ordering.
