Sony Walkman WM-22
With 10,000 supporters, it’s confirmed to advance to the 2024 First LEGO® Ideas Review. SONY WALKMAN: LEGO IDEAS Official
A creation based on the nostalgic music player “Sony Walkman WM-22” released in the 1980s. Comes with two cassette tapes and headphones.

WM-22 has limited information and is not listed in the Walkman product list on Wikipedia.
According to Walkman Land, a portable audio player database site, it was released at least in the UK in 1984. The site also provides images of the actual red WM-22, similar to this creation. WM-22: Walkman Land
Similar to the actual Walkman, you can open the lid and insert cassettes. Nowadays, with streaming being predominant, inserting cassettes or discs to listen to music is almost obsolete.
Cassette tapes can be arranged in other colors.
How likely is it to be produced?
This is the first time the creator, Srta.JirafaEnfadada, has advanced to review.
The “Sony Walkman WM-22” also made it to the second review in 2022 with a different designer, but it didn’t pass.
Recently, mechanical product designs like the Polaroid camera in LEGO® Ideas and the camera in LEGO® Creator have been produced.
While the Polaroid camera had the movement of pictures popping out, producing the Walkman in LEGO® bricks might face disadvantages in review as it wouldn’t actually play music from the headphones. However, experiencing the nostalgic action of inserting and removing cassettes is possible.
Still, considering the Walkman’s legendary status in the history of music players, it could stir up discussion if produced. Let’s hope it passes the review.
