2 Projects Approved for Production!
The results of the 2023 third review (evaluation) of “LEGO(R) Ideas,” an initiative to turn LEGO(R) brick fans’ creations into products, where 42 projects were entered, have been announced on the official LEGO(R) Ideas blog. Now, let’s introduce the projects that made it through the review with Japanese explanations!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Approved for Production
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is a fantasy film released in 2005, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp. However, Willy Wonka’s costume design is from the 1971 release “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is a famous fantasy work, so it should be a good fit with LEGO(R) bricks. Many people must have been waiting for it to be made into a product. This project was approved for production on its second entry[1].
Italian Riviera
Approved for Production
A project featuring colorful buildings inspired by coastal towns in Italy.
Buildings and local themes have traditionally been a challenging category for LEGO(R) Ideas to get approved. However, since the release of the London phone booth and the recent simultaneous approval of the botanical garden and the Twilight house, the trend seems to be changing.
Disney/Pixar’s Luxo Jr.
Continued Review (2nd time)
Luxo Jr. is an iconic character from Pixar Animation Studios, appearing as the desk lamp at the beginning of the studio’s films.
It was decided to continue the review in the previous 2023 second round results announcement, and it has been placed under continued review again this time. Although it has undergone two continued reviews, it is expected that it will eventually be approved for production.
Summary of Impressions
The popular movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the beautiful Italian townscape “Italian Riviera” have been approved for production.
I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a strong candidate even by previous standards. Buildings and local themes have recently become more likely to be adopted due to changing trends, so “Italian Riviera” also had plenty of potential.
Congratulations to the creators of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Italian Riviera” on their products being approved!
When Will They Be Released?
There is no mention of the release dates for both projects, but it is expected to be at least six months away, so they will likely be released as new LEGO(R) Ideas products in 2025 or 2026.
