The LEGO® Art series has traditionally been known for intricately representing flat art pieces like the Mona Lisa and Elvis Presley through mosaic-style builds. However, the series has now taken a bold step into the realm of three-dimensional works.
The new product, which brings to life the iconic “LOVE” by American pop artist Robert Indiana, symbolizes this evolution. Loved by many for its distinctive coloring and simple design, “LOVE” has been transformed into a three-dimensional LEGO® Art piece, taking the series to a new level. Along with this release, the LEGO® Art logo has also been redesigned to reflect a broader representation of art.

With the launch of Indiana’s “LOVE” series, the LEGO® Art logo has also been refreshed. Transitioning from the traditional mosaic-style to a text-based design that encompasses all forms of art, the new logo hints at the future of the LEGO® Art series. This move into three-dimensional art opens up the possibility of recreating other famous sculptures and architectural art pieces in LEGO® form.
[amz_n_to]In this article, we showcase seven pop art and sculptural architectural works that we believe are ideal candidates for LEGO® Art products. These selections highlight their charm and the potential for recreation using LEGO® bricks.
Tony Rosenthal’s “Alamo (The Cube)”
Tony Rosenthal’s “Alamo,” located at Astor Place in New York, is a massive cube sculpture affectionately known as “The Cube.” Its unique feature is that it can be physically rotated by people.
Rosenthal’s work is characterized by a simplicity that conveys strength, and “Alamo” adds a bold accent to the surrounding landscape with its rugged design.
If recreated with LEGO® bricks, it would undoubtedly include a rotating mechanism, making it a playful and unique piece.
Isamu Noguchi’s “Red Cube”
Located in New York’s Manhattan financial district, near Wall Street, “Red Cube” is a sculpture created by Isamu Noguchi in 1968.
Positioned in front of the towering skyscrapers at 140 Broadway, this sculpture stands out with its striking red color and simple cubic form. Its unique design is further highlighted by the circular hole in the center of the cube and the slightly distorted shape that makes it not a perfect cube. This creates a sense of visual instability and balance, emphasizing its dynamic placement on an angle.
“Red Cube” serves as a symbol of the fusion of the bustling energy of the Wall Street area and serene art, carving out its own space and visual impact amidst the solid, business-like surroundings.
Recreating “Red Cube” with LEGO® bricks would highlight its unique sense of balance and spatial beauty, transforming it into a dynamic art piece that leverages the structural potential of LEGO® bricks. By incorporating the central hole, it would capture Noguchi’s characteristic “creating space within space” concept, offering a distinct experience through LEGO® design.
Keith Haring’s Pop Art
While Keith Haring’s works are primarily flat graphic art rather than sculptures, his iconic characters feature simple lines and vibrant colors that integrate elements of street art.
His works are full of vitality, radiating movement and dynamism. Iconic characters like “Dancing Man” and “Baby Figure,” symbols of Haring’s art, would become even more energetic when recreated with LEGO® bricks.
Recreating Haring’s pop art with LEGO® bricks would further enhance the playful and vibrant world he expresses, resulting in a unique and lively masterpiece full of creativity and charm.
Jeff Koons’ “Balloon Dog”
Jeff Koons’ “Balloon Dog” is a unique work resembling a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog. Its glossy surface and vibrant colors are striking, and recreating it with LEGO® bricks could capture its shine and whimsical form by combining different parts and materials.
Using special glossy pieces or metallic colors could further enhance the luxurious and playful qualities inherent in Koons’ work.
Balloon Dogs have also been produced as LEGO® minifigure accessories and are particularly popular for their adorable design.

Claes Oldenburg’s “Saw, Sawing”
American artist Claes Oldenburg is renowned for his sculptures inspired by oversized everyday objects. Among his works, “Saw, Sawing” is a unique piece installed at Tokyo Big Sight.
This sculpture, positioned diagonally as if cutting through layers of the earth, symbolizes “the process of problem-solving.”

This sculpture, designed to appear as if a massive saw is protruding from the ground, showcases Oldenburg’s unique sensibility of scaling up everyday objects.
Recreating the “Big Sight Saw” with LEGO® bricks would emphasize the dynamic blade shape and the curved grip section. Despite its simple design, this sculpture’s overwhelming presence would enhance LEGO®’s playful spirit, making it a piece that offers a fresh perspective from every angle.
Roy Lichtenstein’s “Barcelona Head”
American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein’s “Barcelona Head” is a sculpture that boldly transforms his signature American comic book style into three-dimensional form. Installed in Barcelona’s harbor, its striking thick outlines and dot-shaded textures create the impression of a comic book panel brought to life.
Recreating this piece with LEGO® bricks would allow Lichtenstein’s iconic comic book style to merge with the pixelated nature of LEGO, creating a work that feels both retro and modern. The bold color accents and three-dimensional shading would bring out the playfulness and creativity of the piece.
A LEGO® Art product released in August 2023, slightly reminiscent of Lichtenstein’s Barcelona Head in its style, encouraged users to express themselves through customization. However, it seems the sales performance may not have been particularly strong.

Antoni Gaudí’s Sculptures and Architecture
The works of Antoni Gaudí, the renowned architect from Barcelona, Spain, would make an excellent addition to LEGO® sets.
Among his creations, “Casa Milà (La Pedrera)” stands out for its undulating facade and rugged design, often referred to as “The Quarry.” Its rooftop is adorned with strange, futuristic chimneys and ventilation towers, which resemble warriors from another world, exuding a sense of fantasy.
Gaudí Bonus
Another iconic work of Gaudí is the “Sagrada Família,” a grand cathedral whose construction began in 1882 and continues over a century later. However, if this masterpiece were to be recreated with LEGO® bricks, it would likely fall under the LEGO® Architecture series, which focuses on famous buildings, rather than the LEGO® Art series.
In the past, LEGO® bricks have avoided creating sets based on religious sites. However, with the release of Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2024 as part of the architectural category, the possibility of a Sagrada Família set being produced has become much more likely.

The swooz.net editorial team has visited the “Sagrada Família” and found its interior to be as breathtaking as its exterior. The structure features forest-like columns and ceilings inspired by nature, with intricate designs of stained glass and geometric patterns interwoven in a stunning display of fantasy.
If LEGO bricks could capture the beauty and grandeur of this masterpiece, it would undoubtedly win the hearts of architecture enthusiasts and art lovers worldwide.
The Future of 3D Art and the Potential of LEGO® Art
With the evolution of the LEGO® Art series into three-dimensional works, the worlds of art and architecture have found a new medium of expression.
By recreating sculptures and architectural masterpieces with LEGO® bricks, the accessibility of experiencing art is greatly enhanced, fostering a cultural value that brings these works closer to everyday life.
