Spirited Away
Securing 10,000 supports guarantees entry into the first 2024 LEGO Ideas product review. SPIRITED AWAY: LEGO IDEAS Official
A LEGO® brick recreation of the bathhouse “Yuya” from Studio Ghibli’s beloved “Spirited Away.”
The inside of the building faithfully reproduces scenes from the movie.
Second Highest Box Office Revenue in Japan
“Spirited Away,” released on July 20, 2001, currently holds the title of the second highest-grossing film in Japan as of January 2024.
Until surpassed by “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” in 2020, it maintained the top spot for nearly 20 years.
I personally love “Spirited Away” as well, so I went to see it in theaters when it was released, and even visited Jiufen in Taiwan, said to be the model for the town in the movie!
Includes Characters
Mini-figures and buildable figures of charming characters like Chihiro in casual and work clothes, human Haku, dragon Haku, No-Face, Yubaba (the witch), Yubaba’s assistant, and Kamaji are included.
Especially impressive scenes from the movie, like No-Face and Chihiro on the train, are recreated.
Chances of Being Commercialized
Designer legotruman has entered the review process for the 15th time, and is a regular in LEGO® Ideas.
With past successful designs like Vincent van Gogh’s works, “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Animal Crossing,” and “Gundam,” there are many Japanese-themed designs. He excels in creating cute designs overall.
This is legotruman’s second attempt with “Spirited Away,” as it also entered the review process in the third review of 2020.
Studio Ghibli Works Have Entered the Review Process Several Times
Studio Ghibli works, apart from legotruman’s designs, have also entered the review process, such as “Howl’s Moving Castle,” but none have been approved.
Studio Ghibli works are all major hits with international popularity, so if they were commercialized with LEGO® bricks, it would certainly create a buzz and is expected to generate significant sales.
However, the fact that they haven’t been commercialized yet might suggest there are some adult considerations involved. If so, passing the review this time might be difficult.
However, Studio Ghibli works are not included in the list of entries prohibited by LEGO® Ideas, so approval is still possible.
