The “Donkey Kong” project, which was expected to advance to the product review stage of “LEGO® Ideas,” an initiative to commercialize creations by LEGO® block fans, has been excluded from the candidates.
In LEGO® Ideas, when a user’s published LEGO® block creation receives 10,000 votes of support from other users, it advances to the product review (evaluation) stage. If it passes, it is released as an official LEGO® block product.
“Donkey Kong” is a hit game released by Nintendo in 1981. The creation by If You Build It successfully garnered 10,000 votes, but it was decided to be excluded from the entry list before the review process began.
The reason for exclusion from the entry has not been disclosed, but LEGO® Ideas generally prohibits the submission of projects based on themes currently used in existing LEGO® block products, such as Star Wars or Harry Potter.
It is almost certainly correct to assume that this entry was excluded because the LEGO® Group already has a collaborative relationship with Nintendo through LEGO® Super Mario and LEGO® Animal Crossing series. Furthermore, LEGO® Super Mario has already released products featuring Donkey Kong as a theme.
If you enter “Donkey Kong” into the IP Checker on LEGO® Ideas, it is currently designated as prohibited content. However, it is presumed that at the time this project was published, it was not yet listed as a prohibited subject.
